Families
At Miramont Behavioral Health, we know how vital family support can be and the important role it can play in getting treatment for a loved one.
Seeing a family member or loved one in need or struggling with a mental health condition can be a frightening and heartbreaking experience. We want to be a resource for those located throughout Middleton and the surrounding regions.
How you can help
If you are a family member or friend of someone in need of help, consider the following approaches:
- Explain to the person your reason for concern. Describe the behaviors you’re seeing and how those behaviors are limiting the person’s opportunities. Stay calm and show your loved one that you care about their well-being.
- Offer options. If the person does not want help today, ask if they would like to visit a treatment center next week or next month.
- Be available to support them. Offer to take them for the assessment and sit with them during the process.
-
If your loved one continues to refuse treatment, consider joining a local support group. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers free support groups. Visit their website to learn more and find a support group near you.
If your loved one is in crisis and presents a danger to themselves or others, act immediately: call or text 988 to speak with a crisis counselor, call 911, or take your loved one to the emergency room.
If none of the above is an option at this time, consider joining a support group locally in Dane County. Sharing your experience with others who have friends or family members in need can offer much needed support.Â
